Allerton tyres have their new Ecoline 88 installed.
The ecoline 88 includes some luxury additional features such as 3-point ‘GrabClamps’, heavy duty mechanical turnplates and advanced measuring heads making full 4 wheel alignment even easier and faster.
The ‘GrabClamps’ mean that the measuring head is mounted to the wheel using sprung-loaded ‘arms’ that grab the tyre, and 3 nylon locators on the rim, ensuring there is no metal to metal contact.
Computerised alignment enables you to charge a premium for your alignment service, simply because you are able to provide the customer with a printout showing ‘before and after’. The ecoline 88 will give the same results as competitors’ systems that are literally 5 times the price, and is perfect for those business that want the benefit of built-in vehicle database, live readings & technical prompts, and a customer printout, without the heavy investment traditionally required.

Wheel alignment is not overly complicated. In most instances modern alignment equipment can ‘prompt’ a technician through the process, to achieve swift and precise readings. But how do you make it work and develop into a consistent revenue stream for your workshop? Well, it could be down to how you communicate and market it to your customers.
A excellent example of this is FIVESTAR AUTOCENTER – Huddersfield. They realised very early on that they needed to take the mystery out of alignment and start a conversation with their customers about the benefits to a perfectly aligned vehicle, that ultimately could save them hundreds of pounds in the long term.
To do this they offered a FREE complimentary alignment for a promotional period, on each vehicle that came through their doors. This enabled FIVESTAR to assess and diagnose any severe cases of misalignment and discuss the options available to the owner.
FIVESTAR decided they wanted to at the forefront of alignment technology by purchasing a Hofmann Megaplan Ssence 600 3D aligner. The Ssence 600 system represents the very latest 3D wheel alignment technology. Utilising the ‘reflective target’ type measuring head and camera system, the Ssence is fast, simple, and ideal for those customers looking to get swift and accurate results. The software has been designed to make life as easy for the operator as possible, minimising unnecessary procedures commonly found on other, similar systems.
Every customer was handed a print out of their vehicle’s current alignment values and talked through the options available, making sure they had all the information on their vehicle to make an informed decision. If they decided work was necessary, FIVESTAR happily carried out the work and provided proof of the work carried out.
… needless to say this was successful. With their equipment paid off in less than 12 months and influx of new and existing alignment customers.
Great service FIVESTAR!
Check them out for yourself …
We like to think we are dedicated to every installation we carry out. Quite often you’ll see posts on this very blog about installations in most remote of places. This one is no exception! With the products checked and PDI at our Huntington base, the products were loaded ready for our engineer to install at the most northerly tip of the British Isles, Shetland. The customer required a complete tyre changing and alignment setup including, lifting equipment, wheel aligner, tyre changers and finally balancers.
The Shetland island is the UK most northerly group of islands and putting that into perspective their nearest neighbour is Orkney, 50 miles (80km) to the south-west. In fact it’s only 200 miles (320km) away from Norway. It’s a 12 hour ferry ride, something our engineers know all about!
In such remote locations services can be expensive and the customer need to know that their equipment would be well made and stand the test of time, so not to incur any costly call outs.
At the heart of the installation are the two new TSX3000 scissors lifts, recently added to Hofmann Megaplan range. Boasting a lifting capacity of 3 tonnes and minimum height of just 110mm making it great for installations directly to the floor. Their strength and versatility make them ideal in a situation like this.
The fully-automatic megamount 503 Racing is simply fantastic value for money; providing the typical build quality customers have come to expect from a ‘megamount’ model, combined with a versatile specification and highly competitive price tag. A best seller and common sight amongst tyre shops, garages and main dealers across the globe!
Representing great value for money and incredible return on investment, the megaline system 4 is a must for any garage or tyre shop; even those with existing computerised systems would value the megaline as a way of getting measurements quickly for customer checks.
A fairly recent addition to the Hofmann Megaplan range, the megalift 4000-2 lift as a an electro-hydraulic 2 Post lift represents excellent value for money, combining an economic design typical of entry-level lifts, but with the added peace of mind of being a Hofmann Megaplan product with all its associated qualities such as build, reliability, long-term spares availability and reputation.
Finally the megaspin 200-3 was added is just makes perfect sense! Small, and loaded with features normally only associated with ‘top end’ machines. The megaspin 200 is a motorised wheel balancer utilising low speed technology to eliminate the need for a wheel guard, making it an excellent solution for workshops where space is at a premium.
This particular install was sold by Andrew Page where you can get a range of Hofmann Megaplan products.
Edgefield Coachworks is an award winning body repair centre in Edinburgh. They wanted to add a flexible, precise alignment system to their busy business and Hofmann Megaplan duly obliged with an Ecoline 88 4 wheel alignment system.
CCD or 4 wheel alignment systems, are a popular mobile system consisting of sensors mounted to each wheel. CCD aligner communicates with a PC via Bluetooth and compares the results to a database. The results are easy to see and once the alignment is complete a print off the data can be produced for you customers benefit. They require little specialist knowledge from the workshop as the interaction with the PC talks the technician through the process.
Need to know:
In short if you’re a small / medium sized set up, with multiple technicians with varying abilities, CCD has its benefits. The system automatically instructs the operator through the adjustments and gives feedback to the customer to build your relationship. They are mobile too, so allows flexible working throughout the workshop.
Edgefield Coachworks is an award winning body repair centre that has been operating in Edinburgh since May 2008 but coachbuilding has been at the centre of the Neish family for 3 generations. Their priority has always been on the quality of the work, which is why they’re one of Edinburgh’s leading Insurance Approved Accident Repair Centres. With a large facility to repair any make and model of car up to 7.5 tonnes including tyres, exhausts, brakes, suspension, servicing clutches, air con and vehicle geometric checks. They often do specialist work on a vast amount of supercars, primarily the TVR community.
If you’re in need of you wheels aligning, in Edinburugh, they would be more than happy to see you.

With the Royal Mail having thousands of vehicles out on the road, delivering mail to millions of homes, it is unsurprising that their vehicles clock up considerable mileage. As running costs make up a significant percentage of overheads and having badly aligned vehicles can only escalate this issue further.
With this in mind Royal Mail fleet Aberdeen have taken delivery of their Hofmann Megaplan megaline System 4 laser alignment system. It comes in two options, either wall mounted or on a trolley. At Hofmann Megaplan have many alignment options available, from the very feature driven 3D aligners to this, the most basic laser alignment system. Whilst the system lacks the computerised assistance found on more modern CCD and 3D aligners having a high quality machine and some – but not quality.
Laser alignment was first commercialised in the 1990s, laser wheel alignment is you basic form of alignment. Systems consist of a pair of targets or ‘flags’ mounted to one axle and a pair of laser heads mounted to the other wheels. The common assumption is if you have a small garage 3D alignment might not be for you. Not true.
If you have a four post lift or a pit, you still can have a 3D alignment system installed.
The latest technology 3-D aligners work with a pair of static cameras mounted in front of, or laterally to the lift. These take multiple images of the targets which fix to the vehicle’s wheels. They are suited to higher-volume users such as fast-fit centres and tyre bays due to their greater speed.
Need to know:
In short: For established or aspiring alignment centres where speed and customer information is the priority. They do require the right amount of space and set up. HD systems will bring the size of the targets down but it is worth checking with your supplier exactly what your requirements are.

Having your car tyres aligned has a number of key benefits which would ultimately mean you saving on running costs and improving vehicle safety.
Hi-Performance Auto Centre (Sunderland) have just taken delivery and installation of their new Hofmann alignment system installed by one of our specialists. The ecoline 88 complete with ‘GrabClamps’ which mean that the measuring head is mounted with 3 nylon locators on the rim, ensuring there is no metal to metal contact leaving your precious alloys unmarked.
Main reason for wheel alignment;
1. Increase Fuel Efficiency. Correct alignment mean your wheels are working together and not against each other, so all the engine’s efforts go into propelling the car – thus using less fuel. Great as prices keep increasing.
2. Increase Tyre Life. Your tyres are one of the most expensive ongoing costs you’ll experience and with most families running a minimum of two sometimes three vehicles, it is important to get the most from them. For the same reason as above tyres wear better if they are not in conflict with each other.
3. Experience Smoother Driving. When your car’s wheel alignment is not right you will usually notice that your car drifts slightly even though your steering wheel is pointing straight ahead. Constantly adjusting your steering to overcompensate for bad alignment is inefficient, tiring and distracting (or dangerous)
4. Reduce Expensive Repairs on other parts of the car. Driving with a bad alignment causes the parts in your car to wear unevenly and prematurely. Each time you hit a pothole or bump in the road, your steering and suspension “feel it”. When your tyres aren’t evenly helping with the impact, certain areas of these systems take the hit harder than others, causing them to fail sooner. Failure = more cost.
So if the parts on you car, especially the tyres are wearing unnecessarily quickly or you are fighting to keep the car straight the next question should be “where do I get my wheels aligned” – pick an expert who chooses equipment that is right for the job and have had expert training.
